About our groups and activities

Here are some of Headway Glasgow’s activities. Some of our groups have their own page on our website and you can see more there. We can arrange an informal meeting to get your details and give you information about our groups. You will be able to come along and see what the group is like before committing yourself. The Monday Group and the Wednesday Group 1.30pm to 4pm

In these social activity groups people can have a cup of tea or coffee and a chat, and take part in activities to stimulate memory, number and word use.

“…it makes me feel normal”

We often discuss future outings and external activities. We have a pool table and a range of table games. We also have regular speakers on a variety of topics, for example, benefits, local organisations and community planning. Read more here.

The Creative Writing Group – Tuesday 2pm to 4pm

The group meets weekly on a Tuesday afternoon between 2pm and 4pm. There are usually around 6-10 people at each session, and we enjoy writing, reading and listening during the meeting time. Read more here.

The Thursday Art Group – Thursday 2pm to 4pm

We have various activities including drawing, painting,
clay work, collage, papier mache …..F2163744 the only limit is your imagination.

The Brain Injury Discussion Group for Carers and People with Brain Injury – second Thursday evening in the month 7pm to 9pm

We have a group that meets to discuss issues relating to brain injury. It involves carers and people with a brain injury who meet separately to allow for confidential discussion. Topics discussed recently include motivation, success and achievement.

The Walking Group – Weekly on Friday at 1.30pm

Meals out

We plan and go out for meals regularly in various restaurants, pubs and cafes around Glasgow.

YP posterThe Young Persons’ Group – twice monthly – 6pm to 8pm

The Young Persons’ Group is for people in the 18-30 age range. It runs on the first and third Thursday in each month. The group activities are either social (e.g. going out for a meal, to hear music or see a film) or are discussion based. People talk about the things that affect their lives. Read more here.

The Women’s Group – third Thursday in the month 1.30pm to 3.30pm

We have a Women’s Group who meet once a month with invited speakers who lead discussions particular to women. Read more here.

Short Term Groups

Headway Glasgow also organises short term groups with interests in things like drama, creative writing and cooking.

ABI Café – Monthly – first Thursday in the month – 1.30pm to 3pm

The ABI café is open to people with ABI in the East Dunbartonshire council area. The group has regular speakers on topics of interest (recent topics have included relaxation, benefits, personalisation, and epilepsy). The group also plans an ABI café Seminar each year in May and has regular social outings through the year.

Courses

Over the years we have offered various short-term courses that are designed to help people with issues relating to areas such as life skills, emotions and self-management. These are normally publicised on our Facebook page and at meetings.
